Camagüey, July 26.- The approval of the Ruta Invasora Agroindustrial Grain Company as an International Economic Association will favor the export of coal and the import of inputs needed to revitalize the agricultural sector in the province of Camagüey, particularly the rice program, said Michel Ballate Camejo, general director of the aforementioned entity.

For over a month, he said, they have been operating at this capacity, which has allowed them to export 257 tons of coal to the European market and prepare more than 500 tons for that purpose.

The intention, he specified, is to turn the company into an export pole, given that the province has more than 30 products that could be marketed abroad through Ruta Invasora.

He commented that the rice program in the current spring campaign does not progress at the expected pace, due to the drought facing the territory, since the main reservoirs, Jimaguayú and Muñoz, which supply the plantations of this cereal, have a low volume of water.

Due to this situation, efforts have been concentrated in the northern region of Camagüey to reach 17,000 hectares through the movement of popular rice, although are the specialized entities that have the best conditions; rice culture and deliver practically 85 percent of the production to the State.

He also commented that the planting of various crops is progressing at 130 percent, with more than 1,400 hectares planted, and there is a desire to take advantage of lands where rice cannot be grown to develop rustic crops.

Camagüey, he noted, achieved the largest volume of balanced rice in the country in 2024, with some 32,000 hectares cultivated. The municipalities of Vertientes and Florida stand out in terms of self-sufficiency, while Minas, Esmeralda, and Santa Cruz, depending on harvests, also have the potential to achieve food sovereignty in relation to this grain.
