Camagüey, July 31 - The Lenin-Albaisa People's Council, comprised of eight constituencies, focuses its efforts on efficiently addressing the concerns of the population.
Several of these concerns are included in the economic plan as approved by the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, while others are resolved through the participation of residents.
An example of this can be seen in the extended-hours doctor's office at the entrance of the Lenin de la Paz neighborhood, a facility that was in poor condition but is now nearing its reopening after an investment of more than three million pesos.
Progress is also being made on the repair of the "El Maracas" warehouse, and the stores of "El Cromo" and Fourth Street in Victoria de Girón were repaired. The repair of the 13 de Marzo multi-family building was also approved, but is not yet completed.
"This council has always been characterized by the quality of the people who live here and a strong urban agriculture movement," assures Juan Bautista Martínez Bonne, president of the demarcation.
It encompasses neighborhoods such as El Lenin, Victoria de Girón, Albaisa, San Francisco, Cromo, and Paco Borrero. Its potential lies in the presence of several companies, the international airport, the General Staff of the Region, the Amalia Simoni Hospital, the Feed Factory, and the rice mill.
"We are a community separated from the central core of the city of Camagüey, which makes transportation and movement difficult. That is why the circulation of minibuses on this route has been so well received," he comments.
While concerns are being resolved, a group of long-standing issues remain without a solution: issues related to the water supply, housing problems, transportation beyond the Lenin area, instability in solid waste collection, and the existence of micro-landfills.
"The community working groups are made up of representatives of mass organizations and help us in mobilization, but we must deepen their functioning because they have to participate more in the council meetings, in combating social indiscipline, and in giving the people greater participation in solving problems, because when citizens are not part of the process, the solution does not last," recognizes Juan Bautista.
He adds that there are many social activities taking place in the popular council, such as the Raciel Martínez In Memoriam Inter-neighborhood Soccer Cup, which includes teams from across the municipality and runs until the end of August; as well as cultural and recreational activities with the Golpe a Golpe project, the Nené Álvarez children's danzón group, or La Colmenita. There's also special attention to the senior citizens' club and the grandparents' circle. (Source: Adelante)
