Camagüey, August 2nd.- The Territorial Division of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba (ETECSA) in Camagüey is advancing in the process of replacing 62 battery banks that benefit 10 municipalities of Camagüey province.

Yoan Fonseca Álvarez, head of Operations of the entity, explained that the work responds to the energy autonomy program corresponding to 15 radio bases, 13 centers and seven telephone cabinets.

To date, 70 sites - of the 171 radio bases - have some type of energy backup, which represents 40 percent of the total with a favorable impact on the population, mainly in communities such as Haiti, in Santa Cruz del Sur, and Martí, in Guáimaro; added to the 18 of the City of Tinajones (Earthenware jars).

The battery bank changes were made in the first half of July, a process that, although it does not cover all needs, allows for greater speed and more people connected at the same time.

The manager added that the durability ranges between four and five hours, where factors such as equipment consumption, traffic and hours for charging the batteries influence.

Fonseca Álvarez also mentioned that they are advancing in the energy backups of 29 new sites thanks to the link with various entities that have generators and other facilities for connectivity. (Text and photos: Gladys Dailyn Morera Cordero/Radio Cadena Agramonte)
