Colombo, August 6.- The Sri Lankan newspapers Lanka Leader and Colombo Times today announced Cuba's invitation to participate in an international festival to address the multiple challenges facing peace and social justice.
Organized by the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC, for its acronym in Spanish) in collaboration with its Young Communist Union, the event is titled the Granma Rebelde International Festival and will take place from October 17 to 20 of this year in Havana.
The Sri Lankan newspapers highlighted the importance of the event as a tribute to the founding 60 years ago by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, of the Granma and Juventud Rebelde newspapers, which have the largest circulation on the Caribbean island.
According to its organizers, the festival will create a dynamic platform for the exchange of knowledge among members of politics, academia, culture and grassroots.
The objective of the event is to foster dialogue, unity, and cooperation based on critical thinking, they noted.
According to the call for participants, the main topics of the conference include media manipulation aimed at inciting hatred, distorting the reality of the world's diverse nations, and fostering the rise of fascism and neocolonialism, as well as unity to confront the fourth generation of imperialist tactics.
This year's event, which will culminate with Cuban Culture Day on October 20, will also pay tribute to the centennial of Fidel Castro's birth, which will be commemorated in August 2026.
In parallel, the III International Meeting of Theoretical Expressions of Leftist Parties and Movements will be held in Havana from October 15 to 17. (Text and photo: PL)
