Camagüey, Aug 7.- From August 9 to 13, the 22nd edition of the Literary Crusade will be held in Camagüey. This event is organized by the provincial branch of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS, for its acronym in Spanish), with the collaboration of the Book Center, the Ácana publishing house, the sociocultural project Golpe a Golpe, the Union of Young Communists, and the Provincial Directorate of Culture.
This time, it will be dedicated to the 99th birthday of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro; the 68th anniversary of the death of the Saíz brothers; International Youth Day; and the recently deceased Camagüey’s writer Mariela Pérez-Castro.
"It also has the uniqueness of being the event that kicks off the period of activities in honor of Fidel's Centennial", said José Xavier Guerra Carmenates, president of the Camagüey’s AHS in a press conference.
With the goal of bringing literature and art to different corners and spaces, three artistic brigades will visit communities and workplaces in the main municipality, Florida, Esmeralda, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Minas, Nuevitas, and Guáimaro, and will also attempt to reach Ciego de Ávila and Las Tunas.
They will be made up of local and invited writers, improvisers, tonadists, troubadours, and songwriters from Havana, Mayabeque, Villa Clara, Ciego de Ávila, Las Tunas and Holguín.
Likewise, theoretical activities will be held with workshops, panels, and book presentations.
One of the most anticipated moments will be the traditional Cantata on the eve of August 13th, in Solidarity Square, with the participation of associates and honorary members of the organization.
La Casa de la Trova will host the closing event with a concert by troubadour Reynaldo Rodríguez and the award ceremony of the Bustos Domeqc Contest.
As pre-event activities, a tribute to Mariela Pérez Castro will be held this Thursday, August 7th, at the Provincial Library, and a meeting with pregnant women at a maternity home will be held on Friday. (Luis Adrián Viamontes Hernández/Adelante Digital) (Photos: Adelante Digital)
