Vertientes, Camagüey, 12 ago.- The current calendar represents a key period to strengthen agricultural programs in the municipality of Vertientes, facing the main challenges of local agriculture.
It is important to build on the experience gained at the beginning of the year and on the results of the National Exercises on Land Use, Tenure and Livestock. These processes made it possible to assess successes and failures according to the actual conditions and potential of the region.
The analysis covers the nine people’s councils in the territory, where it is found that much of the land remains idle, available and under-exploited. The priority is to increase cultivable areas in order to promote the cultivation of rustic crops and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Government’s program to correct distortions and revive the local economy. It also seeks to strengthen urban, suburban and family agriculture.
From each front, entity, company, organization, and productive unit, the necessary actions and projections for the municipality are known. Therefore, changes in labor and voluntary mobilizations towards the areas and development hubs are organized, coordinated by the Government leadership and the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC, for its acronym in Spanish).
Progress is monitored daily, showing an increase during the productive campaigns. It is essential to control the production and distribution of milk and meat, as well as what is currently being distributed and marketed at the Acopio points of sale.
Agricultural development remains one of the main strategic objectives in the central southern region of Camagüey, guiding the economic directives of the people and the cooperators' goals to face the limitations imposed by U.S. policies. All of this is framed within the celebration of the 99th anniversary of the birth of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.
