The Dominican Republic awards scholarships for medical specialties in Cuba

Dominican Republic, August 18 - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Dominican Republic (Mescyt) awarded 13 international scholarships in medical specialties in Cuba last Friday.

Franklin García Fermín, the Minister of Mescyt, reiterated his commitment to Dominican education and to young people who wish to pursue their professional training abroad.

"To date, we have granted 1,750 international scholarships, and with the remaining positions, we aim to reach our goal of 2,000 scholarships for this year as part of our ongoing effort to promote the careers and skills that our nation needs,” emphasized García Fermín during the ceremony held at the ministry’s headquarters.

The professionals, whose ages are around 30, will travel to Cuba on September 1, 2025, to specialize in fields such as dermatology, allergy, geriatrics, gerontology, nephrology, rheumatology, and medical oncology.

“These specialties directly address specific healthcare needs in our country; specialists in these areas not only enhance the quality of clinical services but also strengthen the healthcare system’s capacity to meet demands and improve primary care,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ángel Arzuaga, the Cuban ambassador to the Dominican Republic, congratulated the scholarship recipients for their commitment to furthering their professional education through scholarships that will last between 39 and 51 months.

Arzuaga encouraged the students to build upon their knowledge and embrace new learning opportunities and experiences. (Text and Photo: Cubadebate)
