Solid waste collection: a necessity in Nuevitas to maintain hygiene

Nuevitas, Camagüey, August 19 - The solid waste collection in this municipality of Camagüey is a pressing issue exacerbated by a lack of personnel, resources, and fuel.

“Of the five brigades needed for this activity, only three are available, and out of those, only two are currently operational due to several workers being ill,” reported Yamilé Ramírez Leiva, the acting director of the Municipal Community Services Company.

She also specified that they have equipment rented from cooperatives and companies, and the two tractors owned by the entity are being prepared for use in the sector’s operations.

The capacity for solid waste collection in Nuevitas falls short of the population’s demand; however, it is essential to implement additional measures considering the complex epidemiological situation regarding the viral transmission of dengue. (Text and photo: Leticia González Pando/Radio Nuevitas)
