USA, August 21 - U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem stated on Tuesday that the entire border wall with Mexico will be painted black to make it more difficult for people to climb over it, amid the Trump administration’s efforts to prevent illegal immigration into the country.
“This is specifically at the president’s request, as he understands that with the high temperatures here, when something is painted black, it heats up even more and makes it even harder to scale. Therefore, we are going to paint the entire southern border wall black to ensure that we deter people from entering our country illegally,” Noem asserted, adding that the height of the fence, as well as its depth, also deters immigrants trying to pass over or under it.
The statement was made during a visit to a section of the wall in New Mexico, where the secretary took a roller to help paint the fence. Furthermore, Noem praised Trump by saying that “a nation without borders is not a nation,” and that Americans are “very grateful to have a president who understands this and recognizes that a secure border is vital for the future of the country.”
At the same time, the official indicated that approximately one kilometer of wall is being constructed each day, while aquatic barriers are also being built in the border areas along the Rio Grande.
It is unclear what the total cost of the painting work will be. However, under Trump’s “Great and Beautiful Bill,” approved by Congress, the Department of Homeland Security will receive about $46 billion to complete the border wall. (Text and Photo: Cubadebate)
