A call for neighborhood unity

Havana, September 3 – Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and Hero of the Republic, called for neighborhood unity on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the country's largest mass organization, which is dedicated to the centennial of Fidel Castro.

He explained that each community must assume and adapt traditional tasks such as revolutionary vigilance in its various forms, the collection of raw materials, and blood donations, keeping in mind that the essence of the CDRs remains the same, but faces multiple challenges in the face of the current complex situation.

Among the challenges imposed by the new circumstances, he highlighted the fight against the scourge of drugs and the solidarity work of the CDRs in caring for people in vulnerable situations.

Activities for the anniversary involve the entire Cuban family and include vigilance days and social and preventive work from the neighborhood.

Among the most important activities for the new anniversary of the CDRs, the central event on September 28th at the founding site by Fidel in front of the terrace of the Museum of the Revolution in Havana stands out.

The national vice coordinator of the CDRs, Julia Durruthy, noted in a press conference that Ciego Ávila was a vanguard in emulating the Defense Committees for its sustained and inclusive work, and cited Santiago de Cuba, Las Tunas, and Matanzas as notable ones.

The leader indicated that on the occasion of this anniversary, dedicated specifically to Fidel's centennial, awards such as the Barrio Prize will be presented throughout the country.

CDR members and grassroots groups will also receive the medal for the defense of the homeland and neighborhood unity, while cleaning days, marathons and volunteer works in food production are organized. (Radio Reloj) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
