Camagüey, September 4. - The provincial delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG) in Camagüey has established the implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation measures as a priority in programs related to food security and the agricultural sector.
This strategy aims to strengthen the resilience of production systems by promoting practices that address the adverse effects of climate alterations and ensure sustained and efficient production.
As part of the implementation of Task Life, forecasts of harvests and modeling are being developed to analyze water availability, soil fertility, and the use of organic amendments. These actions seek to counteract the appearance of pests and improve agricultural productivity in various intervention areas across the 13 municipalities of Camagüey, enabling more precise and locally adapted management.
Furthermore, progress has been made in introducing varieties and clones of tubers and root vegetables resistant to extreme climate conditions. Alongside this, growth biostimulants are used to promote crop development. Additionally, actions are being carried out in areas with forest plantations, focusing on conservation, management of natural regeneration, and forest restoration, contributing to ecosystem protection and environmental balance.
Together, these actions reflect the province's commitment to adapting its agricultural sector to a climate change scenario, ensuring food security and promoting more resilient and sustainable agricultural development in tune with the needs of the environment and the community.
