Waterworks in Nuevitas will improve service

Camagüey, September 4 – The water supply sector in the municipality of Nuevitas, located in northeastern Camagüey, is undertaking several projects aimed at addressing the existing service difficulties in this port and industrial city.

Among the highlighted actions is the work at the Potable Water Treatment Plant, where, in collaboration with the Local Development Project (PDL, for its acronym in Spanish) Ganev, the city’s compensation tank was put into operation. This will improve water pressure and provide a reserve in case of breakdowns.

This facility also has four outlet motors, two pumps for filter backwashing, and two air blowers, according to a report from Radio Nuevitas’s website.

As part of the works that positively impact the supply of this vital resource to the population, they also installed interior piping and waterproofed the lower part of the structure.

In a second stage of the investment process being carried out by the entity, a pipeline is planned to be built from the Municipal Hospital to the train terminal, and from there to La Gloria neighborhood. The Ganev PDL will reconstruct the sidewalks and manholes, according to Radio Nuevitas digital.

The planned tasks will allow the reduction to two pumping groups, and likewise reduce the long cycle times during which water is served to the population.

The monetary value of the investment process currently underway in the northern Camagüey‘s city amounts to nine million pesos, and other work is continuing in response to local residents' concerns about the problems with these vital services. (Text and photo: ACN)
