Havana, September 4 – Colombia and Cuba signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the Caribbean's response capacity to tropical cyclones and coastal phenomena, according to the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD, for its acronym in Spanish).
The agreement was signed in Havana between the Chief of Staff of the Cuban National Civil Defense, General Ramón Pardo Guerra, and the Director General of the UNGRD, Carlos Carrillo. The objective is to ensure the transfer of knowledge, the exchange of experiences, and solidarity cooperation between the two countries.
Furthermore, the New Granadan entity considered the largest of the Antilles to be an example of prevention and social organization, and highlighted the 39th anniversary of Exercise Meteoro, a simulation conducted annually since 1986 to strengthen the nation's response capacity to natural, technological, and health-related disasters.
It also praised community organization, its robust surveillance and early warning systems, and georeferenced information for each territory. (Radio Reloj) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
