Holguín, September 6 – The shutdown of the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Plant (Felton) due to technical problems is worsening power outages across Cuba, a very complex situation in most provinces.
Journalist Emilio Rodríguez reported that the unit suffered a failure in the plant’s transformer, which led the National Electric Union (UNE) to decide on a 20-day shutdown to perform maintenance tasks like cleaning the boiler, the condenser, and others.
In recent days, blackouts have extended for more than 20 consecutive hours in several areas of the country, a situation worsened by the shutdown of Unit 1 at Felton.
In Havana, where there has been some planning for block outages, it has not been possible to adhere to this schedule, resulting in continuous and prolonged power cuts. Meanwhile, in Matanzas, the Electric Company announced yesterday service cuts in some circuits lasting up to 23 hours and 49 minutes. (Source: Radio Reloj)
