Paris, Sep 13 - French solidarity and cooperation associations denounced today at the Fête de l'Humanité the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba and discussed actions to mitigate its consequences.
On the second day of the political-cultural festival based in the Paris Region, Cuba Linda organized a debate at its stand on Washington's aggressiveness towards the island, its intensification, and the scenario of even greater hostility with the return of Donald Trump to the White House.
The representatives of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba at the Fête de l’Humanité, Juan Miguel García and Katia Aruca, and the Cuban ambassador Otto Vaillant shared with the large audience the reality of the Antillean nation under the blockade, a policy applied for more than 60 years.
In their interventions, they highlighted the relevance of international solidarity to publicize the truth about Cuba in the face of manipulation and disinformation campaigns that they denounced.
The president of France Cuba, Fabrice Leclerc, introduced the issue of the extraterritoriality of the US siege and its role in the policy of asphyxiation against the Caribbean island, which includes measures resumed by the Trump administration such as inclusion in the unilateral list of state sponsors of terrorism, which has a severe effect in the financial area.
Leclerc considered the joint solidarity work at the European level to be fundamental and highlighted the advances in that direction in recent years.
Also, the interim president of Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop), Manuel Pascual, referred to the extraterritoriality of the blockade and its impact on banks, companies, and European citizens.
The meeting included a tribute to the recently deceased president of CubaCoop, Víctor Fernández, for his commitment to accompanying the Cuban Revolution.
For her part, Rose Marie Lou underlined, on behalf of Cuba Linda, an association presided over by Didier Lalande, the need to publicize the reality of the Caribbean country in the face of smear campaigns, and to promote trips that allow people to see firsthand the resistance and dignity of Cubans.
The associations shared projects and concrete actions to support the island, in sectors as diverse as energy, tourism, health, and food.
In turn, in the debate, the representative of the French Communist Party, Charlotte Balavoine, detailed the progress of the solidarity campaign with Cuba that the political organization has been promoting for three years.
In that sense, she reported on initiatives of political support and material aid, such as sending a container with medical materials and plans to dispatch another in the coming months.
The Cuban delegation to the Fête de l’Humanité thanked the solidarity in France and the variety of activities that characterize it. (Text and photo: PL)
