Camagüey, September 20 - The Provincial Center of Music in this city carried out an innovative initiative at the Javier de la Vega Junior High School that combined art and preventive health to raise awareness among young people about the risks of consuming harmful substances.
The event had two main pillars. On one hand, psychologist MSc. Yamilka González Almeida, from ProSalud Camagüey, held an open and honest dialogue with the adolescents. On the other, the Desandann Creole Choir, rooted in Haitian-Cuban traditions and known for its musical talent, connected directly with the students, serving as an emotional bridge for the prevention message.
MSc. Ana Isabel Abay Márquez, head of the ProSalud department and Educational Component at the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Microbiology, emphasized the transformative power of culture as a tool for social change.
“Music and singing created an atmosphere of empathy and receptiveness, allowing the message of self-care and building a healthy future to resonate more deeply among young people,” she explained.
This activity is part of the campaigns I Care for My Future and No to Drugs, reinforcing the commitment of cultural and health institutions in Camagüey to work together in training a more aware youth.
The initiative also reaffirms Camagüey’s title as a Cultural City, using art as a fundamental pillar for community development and social well-being. (Maykel Torres La Rosa / Radio Cadena Agramonte) (Photos: Taken from the Facebook profile of the Provincial Music Center in Camagüey)
