Camagüey agricultural technicians promote agroecological practices for a sustainable future

Camagüey, November 6 - The Camagüey branch of the Cuban Association of Agricultural and Forestry Technicians (ACTAF, for its acronym in Spanish) has become a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development in the province's agricultural sector. With a focus on agroecological cooperatives, this organization promotes practices that not only aim to increase food production but also to care for and preserve the environment.

Odalis Marrero Vanilla, president of ACTAF in the region, emphasized that their work centers on providing ongoing support to business and state entities in the sector, ensuring the effective implementation of methods that favor sustainability.

She added that one of the most notable aspects is their dedication to strengthening the technical capacity of their members. These professionals require constant support in various areas, from technical advice to the sharing of good agroecological practices.

"The branch organizes workshops, talks, and meetings where experiences are shared and new alternatives are presented that aim to optimize production and minimize environmental impact. This collaborative approach facilitates the exchange of knowledge between farmers and experts, thus fostering more conscious and responsible agriculture," she pointed out.

She emphasized that "one area of ??particular interest is the use of effective microorganisms, a strategy that may seem unusual, but is essential given the shortage of products for plant nutrition and pest control. These biological solutions offer farmers viable and effective options to improve the health of their crops and, therefore, increase agricultural production without resorting to harmful chemicals. ACTAF strives to train its members in these innovative practices, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools to face the challenges of the sector."

Furthermore, this group plays a crucial role in providing access to scientific literature and educational resources that support the continuous learning of its members. In a context where agronomic knowledge is rapidly advancing, staying up-to-date is vital. Therefore, it facilitates access to recent research, case studies, and practical manuals that enable informed, science-based decisions, which translates into better results in the field.

The work of ACTAF's Camagüey branch is a valuable example of how technical support and an agroecological approach can transform agricultural and forestry development, promoting a more sustainable and productive future for all.
