Camagüey, November 6 - Cases of arboviruses, specifically dengue and chikungunya, are increasing exponentially in Camagüey, reported Dr. Iluminada Menéndez Placeres, director of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology.
In the presence of Walter Simón Noris, president of the Provincial Defense Council, and Jorge Enrique Sutil Sarabia, vice president of that body and head of Civil Defense in the Camagüey province, Menéndez Placeres explained that the municipalities of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Florida, and Camagüey are currently driving transmission, accounting for 72 percent of the cases in the province.
She specified that the municipality of Camagüey presents a more complex situation with a daily average of 450 people with fever symptoms and a cumulative infestation index of 2.16.
Analyzing the epidemiological scenario facing the province, Sutil Sarabia emphasized the need for timely action, starting with the effective implementation of destructive focal treatment, the screening of febrile cases with the participation of workers and mass organizations, and intensive fumigation to cut off transmission.
He stated that it is necessary to multiply risk perception, continue the processes of sanitization and changes in work, in addition to completing and stabilizing the workforce, both technical and mobilized, in the different health areas.
He also reflected on the importance of strengthening vector control measures in schools, indicating that adulticide treatment should be prioritized in these institutions.
The health of the people, he affirmed, is an essential priority, so he urged working in an intersectoral manner, with quality and sensitivity to reverse the current epidemiological situation. (Yadira Núñez Figueredo/ ACN) (Photo: Archive)
