Havana, Oct. 16 – The X Ibero-American Rural Tourism Meeting, held from September 29 to October 5, confirmed that Cuba is facing a renaissance in agrotourism in all its splendor.
Humberto López-Tirone, president of the Ibero-American Rural Tourism Institute, recently explained exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that ecotourism farms have always existed in the country, but are now joining Latin America's vision of promoting agrotourism from a sustainable development perspective.
Under this principle, entrepreneurs from rural, indigenous, working-class, and cooperative areas, among others, have joined, he noted.
López-Tirone recalled the exchanges held years ago with Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of the Republic (at that time Minister of Tourism), where he always told him that Cuba had a hidden treasure in its mountains.
On behalf of the participants, he emphasized the importance of the work agenda that guided the event.
During the gathering, tours were conducted to various places of interest such as the Viñales Valley, Héctor Luis Farm, Las Terrazas Community-Tourism Complex, Guanabito Hacienda, and the Havana Agrarian University.
Topics addressed included the advances of agritourism and other forms of tourism in Ibero-America, opportunities and success stories in the Cuban sector, business tourism, and the use of Artificial Intelligence in rural areas.
