Havana, Oct. 17th - The Fidel Castro Ruz Center, in the heart of Havana's Vedado district, was the venue for a pleasant and emotional conversation, in which anecdotes and tributes to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution abounded.
In the voice of his son, the prominent photographer Alex Castro, the public learned stories that reflect the personality of the Commander in Chief: demanding, disciplined, simple, austere, and honest.
The talk prompted the mention of the link with the Havana International Book Fair, the largest literary festival in Cuba, to which he dedicated the effort of someone who always bet on bringing the art of the written word to the people.
The event, which each year brings together thousands of readers in the country, including children, young people, and adults, will evoke in 2026 the centenary of the Commander in Chief, announced the president of the Cuban Book Institute, Juan Rodríguez, at the meeting.
He signified that it will be a great tribute and they are working to provide readers with publications about his figure, in digital and printed format. As in a conversation between friends, away from formalities, Alex shared anecdotes about his beginnings in photography and what Fidel's reaction was to it.
At first there was some rejection, he recalled, then he understood that this was his son's dream and advised him that he should do it well.
"I did it with the greatest pride, serenity, and discipline that I could have," he expressed.
He also recalled a meeting of Fidel with Cuban and foreign intellectuals at the Havana Convention Palace, and the discretion with which he managed his personal life.
"We were raised with that discretion that we maintain to this day," he pointed out.
Multiple are the tributes that are paid to the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro in the year of his centenary, from the center that bears his name and other spaces.
Equally numerous are the anecdotes of those who preserve entire nights of work by his side, a deep conversation, or the warm embrace of the father, friend, and brother. (Text and photo: PL)
