Camagüey workers accelerate distribution of rice and other foods

Camagüey, October 24. - With the arrival of 2,800 tons of rice at the Port of Nuevitas, transporters and workers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade are working non-stop to distribute the food to the entire network of warehouses in the province in the shortest time possible.

Odalys Rodríguez Haty, provincial director of the Wholesale Food Company, explained that with this shipment, two pounds corresponding to the month of June will be guaranteed, in order to complete the per capita quota of seven pounds per consumer. Additionally, two pounds from the July allocation will be advanced.

"Following the indications of the Temporary Working Group, we began distribution in the municipality of Santa Cruz del Sur, and the product is already being received in Nuevitas, Camagüey, and Florida," the executive added. To speed up the process, Base Business Units and territories are mobilizing their own means of transportation.

In parallel, the province is advancing in the delivery of other basic products. Currently, one pound of sugar corresponding to October is in the distribution process, merchandise that has already been fully delivered in the municipalities of Guáimaro, Vertientes, and Najasa.

Likewise, the seventh delivery of compote from September is being distributed.

In response to the alert notice issued by Civil Defense due to Tropical Storm Melissa, authorities have implemented a special operation in the commercial and gastronomic network.

Robert Larrinaga, Director of the  Domestic Trade Business Group (GECI, for its acronym in Spanish) in Camagüey, detailed that the actions are concentrated with emphasis on the north and south coasts of the province. "Administrators and workers have the responsibility to safeguard material goods and ensure timely and constant information to the population," he specified.

He pointed out that it is vital to maintain the commercialization of supplies as long as there are consumers in the establishments, but acting with prevention and without neglecting the dangers of heavy rains and winds. This measure prioritizes establishments near low-lying areas, at risk of flooding, rivers, and coasts.

"It is crucial to keep the population informed through established channels, mainly on Telegram via 'Bodega Camagüey'," Larrinaga concluded. (Gladys Daylin Morera Cordero/Radio Cadena Agramonte) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
