Morales Ojeda: The best help is to lift the blockade

Havana, October 31 - Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and Secretary of Organization, described as outrageous, on his Facebook profile, the statement by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the offer of humanitarian aid to the victims of Hurricane Melissa in eastern Cuba.

Morales Ojeda declared that, if there were a genuine desire to support the Cuban people, Washington would have lifted, without conditions, the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed for more than six decades, which has intensified in recent years, and removed Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The Cuban state has demonstrated that this policy severely limits access to supplies, financing, and international donations, exacerbating the effects of meteorological phenomena like Melissa. It also emphasizes that Cuba's inclusion on the aforementioned list is a unilateral and unjustified measure.

Morales Ojeda insisted that the United States' true contribution to the country's recovery would be lifting the blockade, which constitutes the main structural obstacle to the nation's economic and social development.

The U.S. sanctions policy has been reinforced with provisions such as the Helms-Burton and Torricelli Acts, which seek to extend their extraterritorial effects.

In 2019, Washington adopted additional measures to obstruct fuel supplies to Cuba, severely impacting the national economy. These actions are in addition to prohibitions that limit trade, financial transactions, and international cooperation.

Cuba's position, reiterated in international forums, has been clear: any humanitarian gesture is insufficient as long as an economic blockade remains in place that directly impacts the daily lives of the population.

The Cuban vision of genuine solidarity emphasizes that it is expressed through respect for sovereignty and the elimination of coercive policies.

Hurricane Melissa caused severe damage in several eastern provinces, affecting homes, infrastructures, and basic services.

In this context, Cuba has received messages of support and aid from governments and international organizations with a spirit of solidarity and humanitarianism, which complement the internal mobilization for recovery. (ACN) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
