Producing food is a priority in Nuevitas

Nuevitas, Camagüey, December 19. - Producing food to contribute to local self-sufficiency is a priority in this municipality of Camagüey.

The agricultural contracting process with productive entities and producers, which as in all of Cuba takes place from November 10 to December 20, will ensure food volumes for the coming calendar year.

The main destinations for deliveries include Acopio—which prioritizes social consumption (Health and Education), local markets, and fairs—the Dairy and Meat Industries, Tourism, and Frutas Selectas, which resupplies this important sector for the economy.

The agricultural sector in Nuevitas aims to carry out land preparation to ensure the effectiveness of the Spring Campaign—which will begin next March—a period on which about three thousand tons of root vegetables, fruits, and vegetables depend, out of the eight thousand tons agreed upon in the current contracting process.

Similarly, plans are in place to sow around four caballerías (approximately 134 hectares) of rice at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes production base in Cayo Confite, Camalote, to help maintain the regulated sale of the grain to households.

Additionally, it is projected that state-run productive entities and the agricultural enterprise with its Basic Business Units will acquire bank credits to avoid non-payments to farmers. (Text and photo: Radio Nuevitas)
