Havana, Dec 20.- The War Correspondents' Circle of the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC, for its acronym in Spanish) rejects and denounces the military escalation by the United States off the coasts of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as it constitutes aggression against its stability, sovereignty, and peace, and also against the Latin American and Caribbean region.
A declaration from the organization warns that amidst such deployment, extrajudicial executions have been perpetrated by bombing boats or executing shipwreck survivors—abhorrent acts that the North American empire has not the slightest right to commit, not even if it were to provide evidence related to its excuse of fighting drug trafficking, which, as of this minute, it has not done.
It warns that this is a flagrant violation of the victims' rights and of all international norms and laws; furthermore, like pirates of old, US personnel assaulted, kidnapped a crew, and stole a Venezuelan oil tanker, in blatant violation and contempt for all established norms governing the right to free maritime trade and the sovereignty of peoples.
It criticizes the US government's recent announcement of a blockade against Venezuela, with which it aims to hinder the operation of its most important industry and export product, with the political purpose of trying to collapse the government of President Nicolás Maduro, prevent the country's normal economic development, and precipitate an act that triggers war.
"Ultimately, to pounce upon the immense natural resources of its territory as a gateway to also usurp the wealth of the peoples of Our America, in any latitude."
It reiterates that this is an imperialist aggression seeking to restore the colonial condition in our lands, but in the face of such threats, the Venezuelan people rise with nobility and fighting capacity—equable, mobilized, conscious, and combative.
"Our solidarity with the people of Chávez and Maduro, who today hold high the sword of Bolívar, that of true independence and social emancipation."
"We call on all our colleagues across the continent, especially those who have covered war zones, to defend the peace of Venezuela and our entire region."
"Let us raise the truths of history and our present against the imperialist pretension of Donald Trump's government to impose its designs of domination by force. Against psychological warfare and persistent media aggression, let our voice of revolutionary solidarity rise and be heard loud and clear." (Text and photo: ACN)
