State construction inspection regulations updated

Havana, Dec 20. - The Ministry of Construction (Micons) has updated the State Construction Inspection Regulations, which govern the supervision of construction projects and the production of building materials in Cuba, Micons announced via its social media channels.

The State Construction Inspection Unit, under the authority of Micons, is comprised of a General Directorate and 14 Territorial Offices, responsible for executing and controlling inspections in construction activities.

Since its creation 28 years ago, the state inspection system has been refined through three regulations: Resolution 119 of 2002, Resolution 5 of 2008, and Resolution 269 of 2017, all published in the Official Gazette.

The new regulation incorporates inspections within the Investment Process and establishes standards for supervising builders, designers, contractors, suppliers, and material producers, in accordance with current legal and technical provisions.

Among its main functions are overseeing project execution, halting projects that fail to comply with regulations, supervising the use of materials and technologies, and monitoring the legality of issued licenses and permits.

The regulation pursues strategic objectives such as guaranteeing structural safety and the quality of buildings, preventing material and human damage, strengthening technological and administrative discipline, and contributing to the sustainable development of national infrastructure.

Micons emphasized that this regulation facilitates the supervision of compliance with the legal, technical, and methodological standards established by state bodies, thereby reinforcing institutionalization and efficiency in the sector. (Text and photo: ACN)
