Cuba, National Electric System, electrification, isolated homes, service

Electrification program with photovoltaic systems implemented for isolated homes

Havana, December 22 - As part of the Government Program for the recovery of the National Electric System, the goal has been set to electrify a number of isolated homes that lack this service.

Regarding this, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, recently explained to the National Assembly of People's Power that they have five thousand photovoltaic solar systems, which will allow them to reach the approximately 2,200 homes that have no electricity whatsoever, meaning they are not connected to the grid.

At the same time, with the remaining systems, a plan will be implemented to improve service in homes that currently depend on diesel generators, which only provide electricity for four hours a day. In these cases, solar panels will be installed that will operate in conjunction with the generators, without initially replacing them, creating a hybrid power source.

This effort is taking place within a complex national economic context, marked by financial and infrastructural limitations. Despite these challenges, the State seeks to guarantee this essential service, recognizing its direct impact on the well-being, education, and communication of citizens residing in the most remote and difficult-to-access areas of the country.

This is part of a broader strategy to promote energy efficiency and the transition to renewable energy sources, although its full implementation will depend on the capacity to mobilize resources under current conditions. (Granma Digital) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
