Provincial Party plenums define work methods for 2026

Havana, Jan 9. - Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC, for its acronym in Spanish) and President of the Republic, highlighted today the development of the extraordinary plenums of the provincial committees of the political organization, noting that these spaces are defining concepts and work methods for 2026.

On X, Díaz-Canel indicated that this Friday he will attend the meetings in Granma and Holguín, as part of a process that began this Wednesday in Pinar del Río and Artemisa, and that will occur in all provinces, in order to follow up on what was agreed during the XI Plenum of the PCC Central Committee.

In his message, the First Secretary emphasized that while participating in the plenums of Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba this Thursday, he called for focusing on the country's priorities and defending them at the grassroots level.

According to information from the Presidency, Díaz-Canel stressed in these meetings that, regardless of the obstacle posed by the blockade, there are things in the country that need to be transformed, but this requires a change in mentality in the Party's work and in the management of the economy.

"As the Party, we have to focus and orient ourselves toward the priorities and the scenarios where those priorities are developed, which is at the grassroots level," stated the First Secretary.

He also insisted on the concept of unity, based on the ideas of Fidel and Raúl, and reiterated that such unity is not built uncritically, without debate, without getting into problems.

"When one remains silent to avoid causing trouble and problems keep piling up, or when one remains silent to protect oneself, that is not unity; that is a lie, that is an uncritical unity, that unity is formal, it is fictitious," he warned.

Likewise, Díaz-Canel addressed issues such as democracy within the organization and popular participation and control in all spheres.

Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the PCC Central Committee, outlined the Party's and the country's priorities for this year: strengthening unity, strengthening political-ideological work, supporting the Government Program to correct distortions and re-boost the economy, and confronting deviations and negative tendencies present in Cuban society.
