Havana, January 24 - With Russia as the guest of honor, in homage to the historic bilateral relations, the capital is preparing for the 34th International Book Fair of Cuba 2026, to be held from February 12 to 22.
The most important and extensive literary event in the Caribbean archipelago will also be dedicated this year to two recognized figures of literature, writer Marilyn Bobes, a two-time Casa de las Américas Prize winner, and José Bell Lara, a PhD in Philosophical Sciences and Master in Caribbean Social Development, an emeritus professor at the University of Havana.
In a recent press conference, the president of the Cuban Book Institute (ICL, for its acronym in Spanish), Juan Rodríguez, highlighted the significance of dedicating the major event of 2026 to Russia, a friendly and brotherly country from a political and cultural perspective, and to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in the year of his centenary.
Cuba’s greatest literary celebration will honor his example, memory, and legacy, which also includes this fair and everything he did for Cuban books and writers, added the ICL president.
In dialogue with the press, the ambassador of the Russian Federation in Cuba, Viktor Koronelli, noted the honor it represents for his country to participate "in this prestigious fair, one of the most important events in the cultural sphere of all Latin America."(Text and photo: PL)
