Havana, Jan. 30 – The Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A. (Etecsa) announced that, starting March 1st, prepaid mobile phone customers will be able to access the international outgoing roaming service (Roaming), which will allow them to use their Cuban cell line while abroad.
They emphasized that customers will be able to keep their line active in those countries with which Cuba has international roaming agreements, enabling them to make and receive calls and SMS, access the internet via mobile data (according to the chosen plan), and carry out their usual operations, at no additional cost, through Transfermóvil.
The service can be used in 174 countries, although it is not identical in all, as it depends on the availability of calls, SMS, and data over 2G, 3G, or 4G networks.
They highlighted that the service is activated automatically when the user turns on their mobile phone in the destination country and the device recognizes the network of one of the partner operators.
They specified that each plan will be valid for 30 days from the first use, and if a new plan is purchased before the validity period ends, the term will be extended for an additional 30 days, and the available resources—including data, voice minutes, and text messages—will accumulate.
Etecsa clarified that incoming and outgoing calls, as well as SMS sent, will be deducted from the resources of the contracted plan. Received SMS, service notifications, and browsing on the company's official websites and in PáginasAmarillas will not be charged.
The entity confirmed that Transfermóvil can be used from abroad with all its usual functionalities, facilitating the management of users' personal and financial operations while outside the country.
To check the service status and available resources, customers can dial *222*762# (ROA) from their mobile. Additionally, specialized assistance will be available 24 hours a day via email at atencion.roaming@etecsa.cu and through WhatsApp messaging at numbers 5264 2277 and 5264 2288.
