Camagüey, January 31 - The commemoration of the 173rd anniversary of José Martí's birth and the 36th anniversary of the creation of the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Unit (Prosalud, for its acronym in Spanish) came together in a celebration full of symbolism in Camagüey. This link between Martí's thought and the mission of health education marked the activities of an institution that has become a fundamental space for the well-being of the population.

The main event took place in the emblematic house on Martí Street in this city, where founders, workers and directors who have written the history of Prosalud gathered. In this context, the origins of the institution in 1990 were remembered, and its evolution to the present day was reflected upon, in an atmosphere of celebration and collective memory.

The activities for the day were characterized by educational actions aimed at different generations. Prosalud specialists held a film-debate with senior high school students, using the film "Palmer" to reflect on gender and masculinities. Likewise, on World Environmental Education Day, the concept of "One Health" was discussed with seventh-grade students, highlighting the interrelation between human, animal, and ecosystem well-being.

The core of the celebration was focused on paying tribute to the people and institutions that support this important work. During the event, distinctions were awarded to key community figures, including the Federation of Cuban Women, the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, the educational sector, youth organizations, and local media such as Radio Cadena Agramonte and the Adelante newspaper. In particular, a special recognition was given to teacher Doris Monteagudo Simpson, highlighting her valuable work in promoting health among children.

With 36 years of uninterrupted work, this collective reaffirms its mission as a pillar in the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The institution extends its gratitude to the invaluable army of volunteers who multiply its impact and closes this day with its sights set on future challenges.

From its historic headquarters, Prosalud Camagüey continues its work, now more relevant than ever, writing day by day - in light of Martí's ideas - a future of greater awareness and well-being for all the people of Camagüey.
