Camagüey, Jan 31. - The Camagüey Railways and Bridges Base Business Unit (UEB, for its acronym in Spanish) stands out among railway sector entities in the province for its good economic and financial indicators at the close of 2025, in addition to its results in union activities.
Despite current resource limitations, the performance of those who guarantee the viability of railway tracks and related engineering works in the territory made it possible for the entity to exceed its sales target, reaching 112.6%, and its total income target, reaching 113.4%, with more than 156 million pesos collected.
In statements to the Cuban News Agency, Modesto Jiménez García, director of Railways and Bridges in Camagüey, also explained that such performance favored an average salary for workers of 11,027 pesos, all thanks to the intelligence, sacrifice, and effort of the workforce.
The UEB Railways and Bridges is involved in the repair and maintenance of the connections of the railway yards that link with the Central Line, and the branches to Nuevitas and Santa Cruz del Sur, respectively, to ensure the safe movement of passenger and freight trains.
Within this work, the efforts to maintain the good condition of industrial tracks stand out, which influences the development of the sugar harvest through cane haulage to the two sugar mills currently operating in Camagüey: the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and the Siboney.
The executive highlighted the close relationship with the Youth Labor Army (EJT, for its acronym in Spanish) Railway Battalion in Camagüey, a detachment to which more than 90 young people belong, coming from the municipalities of Guáimaro (located in the Martí locality), Santa Cruz del Sur, and the provincial capital.
There are three EJT camps in these Camagüey jurisdictions, which become essential support in the maintenance of the various areas, Jiménez García affirmed.
The comprehensive positive results of the Camagüey Railway and Bridges UEB in the last year made it worthy of hosting the provincial ceremony for Railway Worker's Day, celebrated this Thursday, and the The Cuban Workers' Union (CTC, for its acronym in Spanish) in the territory awarded it the XXII Congress of the Workers' Organization Plaque.
During the closing ceremony commemorating the date, the CTC also recognized union leaders and several union sections, including the Railway Equipment Repair Company (EREF, for its acronym in Spanish) in Camagüey, the Railway Workshops, the Railway Logistics Supply Company (Sumifer, for its acronym in Spanish), and the National Routes Company (National Trains), known as Run, as noted by José Raúl Rivero Salazar, secretary of the Transportation and Ports Union in the Camagüey region.
These entities, with the dedication of workers and specialists, are vital in the repair of locomotives, train cars, cement silos, sugarcane wagons for hauling cane to the mills, and the repair of tracks and bridges in this sector of great national economic importance. (Source: ACN)
