JD Vance reiterates importance of Venezuelan oil for United States

USA, Feb 5. – The United States wants to guarantee itself and the world economy access to oil for "many years," and that is why Venezuela is so important to Washington, according to U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.

"I recall that, after our military operation in Venezuela, the President of the United States [Donald Trump] spoke to me, [Secretary of State] Marco [Rubio], and other senior officials of his cabinet about the importance of ensuring the world economy had access to oil and gas for many years.

Of course, one of the reasons we are so interested in Venezuela is because it is a crucial resource. And that crucial resource is called oil," declared Vance. He spoke at the opening of an international ministerial conference on critical minerals trade in Washington.

According to the U.S. Vice President, despite high technology and the rapid growth of digital sectors, the global economy still fundamentally depends on tangible things, and nothing is more tangible than oil. "And I would add that nothing is more tangible than critical minerals," emphasized Vance.

U.S. media and experts note that the current meeting in Washington was convened by the United States primarily as part of its efforts to counter China and its trade disputes with this country. As the Chinese Embassy in the United States stated while commenting on the Trump administration's initiative, Beijing is working to maintain the stability of global supply chains and hopes Washington will do the same.

On January 3, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Iván Gil Pinto announced that the United States had attacked civilian and military targets in Caracas. He described Washington's actions as military aggression. A state of emergency was declared in Venezuela. Trump later confirmed the attacks and announced the capture and removal of Venezuelan President NicolásMaduro and his wife.

On January 5, they appeared before a federal court for the Southern District of New York. They are accused of involvement in drug trafficking. Maduro and his wife have pleaded not guilty. Rodríguez, who served as Maduro's executive vice president, is the interim head of state in Venezuela. Trump announced that the United States would assume temporary control of Venezuela.
