Guillermo GarcíaFrías congratulated on his 98th birthday


Havana, Feb 10. – The Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) today congratulated Hero of the Republic of Cuba and Commander of the Revolution, Guillermo GarcíaFrías, on the occasion of his 98th birthday, via their social media.

 

The armed institution emphasized that GarcíaFrías's life is an example of loyalty and dedication to the defense of the Homeland, with firm leadership and wisdom forged in the most difficult struggles, which continues to be a beacon and guide for the Cuban Revolution and the FAR.

Guillermo GarcíaFrías was born on February 10, 1928, in the hamlet of El Plátano, Pilón municipality, Granma province, and was the first peasant to join the Rebel Army after the landing of the yacht Granma in 1956.

He led the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, to the site known as Cinco Palmas, where the guerrilla force was reorganized, and he attained the rank of Commander as second chief of the Third Eastern Front.

After the revolutionary triumph of 1959, he held various positions in the FAR, including First Chief of the Western Army, and also served as Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers and Minister of Transport in the 1980s.

He is currently President of the Flora and Fauna Enterprise Group and a Deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power, in addition to holding the title of Hero of the Republic of Cuba. (Source: ACN)
