Cuba's will to achieve energy sovereignty highlighted

Havana, Feb 13.- Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, highlighted today the Government's will to achieve energy sovereignty, amidst the oil blockade imposed by the United States.

On X, the Chancellor highlighted as progress towards this goal the generation of more than 900 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic energy, a record figure reached last Wednesday during midday hours.

This milestone is part of the results of the Government Program for the recovery of the national electrical system, and shows the firm will to achieve sovereignty in that sector, Rodríguez Parrilla assured.

As part of this program, during 2025 more than 1,000 MW in solar energy were installed in the country, in order to diversify the energy matrix.

According to official figures, before 2025 the percentage contributed by renewable energy sources in the country's electricity generation was only 3%, and with the investment that year, Cuba jumped from 3% to 10%.

The photovoltaic parks are generating, on average, daily, during the hours of the day they operate, 38% of the energy the country consumes at those times, recently specified Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, in a special appearance before the press.
