Cuban ambassador thanks Mexico following new aid shipment

Mexico City, Feb 25.- The ambassador of Cuba in this capital, Eugenio Martínez, reiterated his gratitude to Mexico, following the departure from the port of Veracruz of two ships carrying 1,193 tons of food supplies destined for the island.

"Towards #Cuba new material aid for the Cuban people from the Government of #Mexico, together with part of the aid collected by civil society organizations and the Mexican people," the diplomat stated in a message on his X social media account.

"We reiterate our sincere thanks for the solidarity and the aid that will reach our people," he expressed.

Through a statement, Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that this Tuesday, the Navy ships Papaloapan and Huasteco departed from the port of Veracruz.

According to the statement, among the essential food items transported by the ARM Papaloapan ship, beans and powdered milk stand out, totaling 1,078 tons, while the cargo of the ARM Huasteco consists of 92 tons of beans plus 23 tons of various food items.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified that these 23 tons of humanitarian aid were delivered by various social organizations with the support of the Government of Mexico City at the collection center set up in the Historic Center and correspond to a first delivery.

According to reports, for the maritime transport, whose estimated travel time is four days, as well as the loading and unloading of the cargo, more than 350 naval personnel, one crane, and five forklifts were used.

This is the second shipment of material aid from Mexico to the island, following the arrival in Havana on February 12 of approximately 814 tons of essential food items and hygiene products.

"The people of Mexico keep alive their tradition of solidarity with the peoples of Latin America and particularly with the people of Cuba. Our country has always provided aid to brotherly peoples in need," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.

The departure of the cargo occurs amid the threat from the United States to impose coercive measures on countries that supply crude oil to the largest of the Antilles, another twist in the blockade applied by Washington against Cuba for more than 60 years. (Text and photo: PL)
