Tomato processing in Camalote, a guarantee of high-quality local products


Nuevitas, Camagüey, Feb 25 - The workers of the Basic Business Unit (UEB, for its acronym in Spanish) of Camalote Vegetable Preserves, belonging to this municipality in the northeast of Camagüey, remain immersed in tomato processing.

Héctor Méndez Fagundo, director of the industry, specified that the process to obtain the main raw material for subsequent productions began with 218 hundredweight of said vegetable in the yard.

According to the contracts established for this month with local farmers, the supply is expected to reach 92 tons of tomatoes, a delivery that proceeds depending on their ripening.

During the February, March, and April processing period, the UEB produces 20% puree, which they store to use in future periods for the production of ketchup, 10% tomato puree, and vitanova, products that are in high public demand.
