Minas, Camagüey, Feb 26.- Food production, especially rice, is essential to guarantee food security in the province. Several cooperatives and producers in the municipality of Minas are playing a prominent role in this effort, working hard to improve their results despite the fuel deficit affecting the area, a result of the strict blockade imposed by the United States government.
YordanisDiéguez Morales, manager of the RutaInvasoraAgroindustrial Enterprise in the territory, explained that they are currently in the final phase of harvesting the crops planted in the months of September and October. This harvest is smaller and faces difficulties due to the lack of inputs and fuel, which has seriously complicated the process. However, alternatives are being sought to ensure the collection of the grain, essential for the country's food sovereignty.
Furthermore, Diéguez Morales, who is also a food producer and delegate of the La Gabriela constituency, highlighted the importance of the Credit and Services Cooperatives (CCS, for its acronym in Spanish) in the rice production of the region. Among them, the Máximo Gómez Agricultural Production Cooperative (CPA, for its acronym in Spanish) stands out, as well as the ConradoBenítez, Ignacio Agramonte, and Miguel Benavides CCS. The latter has more than 106 producers distributed in the communities of CañadaAmarilla and Indio Hatuey, where a large part of current production is concentrated.
The manager also mentioned that the fuel deficit could affect contracting for the next harvest, since alternatives for land preparation, much of which is waterlogged, are still being evaluated. This scenario highlights the severe consequences of the sanctions imposed by the current White House administration on Cuba, which limit the nation's productive capacities.
Despite these adversities, Diéguez Morales emphasized the firm will to move forward with agricultural production. He assured that they will sow as far as possible, using the strategies that have worked so far. In times where the demand for solutions is critical, the commitment to food production remains a fundamental priority to face these challenges.
