Moscow, Mar 2.- In response to the joint attack by the United States and Israel, Iran has filled the skies of the Middle East with ballistic missiles, the fundamental pillar of its military power.
Propelled in the initial stage of its flight by a rocket engine, the ballistic missile advances solely by the force of gravity, following a trajectory that arcs upward before descending to detonate the warhead on its target. Although its trajectory is easy to predict, its speed makes it difficult to intercept.
Iran has one of the most extensive missile arsenals in the region. While there is no official data, the Israeli military estimates that the Persian country possesses about 2,500 ballistic missiles. Before the war of June 2025, Israel claimed it had identified efforts by Iran to significantly accelerate its production rate of ballistic missiles and increase its arsenal from around three thousand to eight thousand in two years.
Tehran hides its projectiles, which are the main deterrent tool against Tel Aviv, in underground facilities dubbed 'missile cities.' There is evidence of the existence of at least five such sites in the provinces of Kermanshah and Semnan, as well as near the Persian Gulf, according to Reuters.
A report prepared by expert Behnam Ben Taleblu, specializing in Iranian security, documents the advanced technologies that allow the Persian country "to stretch fuselages and build them with lighter composite materials to increase the range of the missiles."
The range of the missiles does not exceed two thousand kilometers in compliance with a self-imposed limit that Tehran claims is sufficient to protect its territory, as they can reach Israeli territory, which is why Tel Aviv demands that the Persian country limit it to 300 kilometers.
Israel and the United States launched a joint attack against Iran early Saturday morning, with the aim of "eliminating the threats" posed by the government of the Persian country.
The attacks claimed the life of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and several senior military officials of the nation.
In response, Iran launched several waves of ballistic missiles towards Israel, as well as against US bases located in Middle Eastern countries. (Text and photo: RT)
