Havana, Dec 13.- The groups and venues of the 2024 Volleyball Nations League were announced and Cuba coincides in the three weeks with Italy, Argentina and Serbia.
Two brackets of eight contenders in each phase will characterize the tournaments of each sex, which after their closures will define, based on the ranking location, the remaining places for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
According to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), in the men's branch the teams from Cuba, Italy (world champion), Argentina (Olympic bronze) will face each other in the first week, from May 21 to 26, with a stage in Rio de Janeiro. ), Serbia, Iran, Japan, Germany and Brazil.
In Antalya, Turkey, the teams from France (Olympic champion), Poland (world runner-up), Netherlands, United States, Canada, Slovenia and Bulgaria will compete alongside the hosts.
In the second round, from June 4 to 9, eight teams will meet in Japan and the others in Ottawa, Canada. In the latter there will be Cuba, Serbia, Italy, Argentina, the United States, the Netherlands, France and the locals.
The tournament will close, from June 18 to 23, in Manila, Philippines, and Ljubljana, Slovenia. This European city will bring together Cuba, Italy, Serbia and Argentina, plus Poland, Bulgaria, Turkey and the locals.
Of these teams, those classified in the pre-Olympic tournaments held this year already have a ticket to Paris 2024: Germany, Brazil, the United States, Japan, Poland and Canada, in addition to France due to its status as host. All appear in the top 12 of the world rankings, according to the FIVB website. Poland (421.12 points), the United States (390.91) and Italy (342.43) lead the pack.
They are followed by Japan (340.30), Brazil (338.17), Argentina (314.35), Slovenia (307.12), France (306.80), Serbia (253.22), Germany (249.10), Cuba (236.96) and Canada (222.17).
The women's edition of the 2024 Nations League will take place from May 14 to June 16 with the participation of the Olympic medalist teams: United States (gold), Brazil (silver) and Serbia (bronze).
