Vertientes, Camagüey, for higher productive yields

Vertientes, March 25.- The Territorial Grain Research Station, in the Camagüey municipality of Vertientes, implements various scientific research projects to advance productive yields with sustainability.

Amalia Moredo Álvarez, director of that entity, pointed out that to date there are 15 projects, of which seven are sectoral, two respond to the business system, five are territorial and one is international in nature, in conjunction with Vietnam, all in function to look for the best and most resistant seeds.

The lines respond to what is today identified as the municipality's problem banks and work is being done with other organizations, since the management of the plants and the characteristics of the soil are taken into account to obtain more favorable balance, he said.

Advancing in biopreparations and other organic products is also part of the center's strategies, together with the work with extension producers, with palpable results in efficient varieties of rice, corn, as well as sorghum, peanuts and sunflower seeds that ensure local productions, such as vegetable oil, and substitute imports.
