Camagüey, April 9.- Promoting rice production, one of the essential foods in the Cuban diet and which currently commands high prices, constitutes one of the challenges and projections in the broad purpose of increasing offers to the population.

In the Camagüey municipality of Florida, Lázaro Puerta Fundora, in charge of the San Juan del Centro farm, of the Camilo Cienfuegos Credit and Services Cooperative, is one of the producers with the best results in the province and the country.

In just over 40 hectares, Titi Puerta, as everyone who knows it calls it, obtains different varieties of cereal, focused, above all, on the supply of certified quality seeds to rice farmers throughout the Camagüey territory, but also social institutions. At certain times they have benefited from the grain.

For him and his workers, the search for solutions to problems is always a constant, and that is why they strengthen alliances with new economic actors to acquire technological packages that make it easier for them to increase yields, today at approximately 5 tons per hectare.

Faced with the imperative to sustainably increase food production, including rice, essential on the plate of many Cubans, the work of Lázaro Puerta Fundora from Camagüey constitutes an example of what can be achieved in the Cuban fields, one of the exceptions. that must multiply and become the rule, as the President of the nation repeatedly calls for.
