Cuba and Laos reiterate their willingness to strengthen bilateral relations


Havana, May 5.- The interest in strengthening the historical ties between the Republic of Cuba and the Lao People's Democratic Republic was evident today, in this capital, during a meeting between both parties.

The conversations were led by Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), and Bounthong Chitmany, member of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat, permanent secretary of the Central Committee of the Popular Revolutionary Party Lao (PRPL) and vice president of the Southeast Asian country, who is on an official visit to the Island.

Morales Ojeda expressed the high priority given by the PCC to the exchange program planned during the stay of the Laotian delegation, which will extend until next Tuesday.

In this way, he described as excellent the inter-party relations based on political dialogue at the highest level and the fluid contact between the political and mass organizations of the two nations.

The Cuban party leader expressed his pleasure at the prospect of holding the Second Theoretical Seminar between both parties tomorrow, a continuation of the first meeting of this type held in Laos, as a mechanism to share particular experiences in socialist construction.

When speaking, Bounthong Chitmany conveyed greetings to Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, on behalf of Thongloun Sisoulith , general secretary of the PRPL and president of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

The visit responds to the invitation extended by Morales Ojeda on his tour of the Asian region that included a stop in Laos and his program includes other meetings with Cuban authorities and visits to places of interest.

Present were Teresa Amarelle Boué, member of the Political Bureau and general secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, and Emilio Lozada García, head of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee, and other officials of the organization.

Prior to the meeting, Bounthong Chitmany, accompanied by his delegation, placed a wreath to the National Hero of Cuba José Martí at the monument at the foot of the Memorial that bears his name in this capital. (ACN) (Photo: PCC website)
