Camagüey, Dec. 23. - Unexpectedly, the Holguín squad took the title of the National Boxing Series, whose farewell competitive day was held this Sunday at the Rafael Fortún Chacón sports hall.
The Holguin team, who in their last presentation took an agonizing hug to five victories against Guantánamo, reached 287 points, compared to 271 for the runner-up Camagüey’s team, which closed the tournament with five wins in ten fights against Cienfuegos.
On the other fight card, Matanzas achieved six victories against the battered Sancti Spíritus, which got four smiles, although it did not present competitors in the 75, 80 and 92 kilogram divisions.
The subtitlers had the support of multi-time champion Julio César la Cruz (92 kilos) on the three final dates and, together with Erislandy Álvarez, were the most renowned figures in this joust of fists.
For some specialists, the bad decisions in some of the fights between the Camagüey’s ones and the winning team of the event, considerably affected the local team in its intentions to access the crown.
After Holguín, Camagüey and Cienfuegos (253), the provinces of Matanzas (226), Guantanamo (215), Pinar del Rio (198) and Sancti Spiritus (146) were accommodated.
