Ramallah, Jan 18. - The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) claimed today its right to govern in the Gaza Strip and demanded an end to the Israeli aggression against that region, which caused more than 46 thousand deaths in 15 months.
The State of Palestine must assume all responsibilities in the Strip because it is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory, the Presidency affirmed in a statement.
It recalled the position announced on several occasions by President Mahmoud Abbas, who affirmed that the State of Palestine has legal and political rights over Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
The statement said that the PNA completed all preparations to assume all its responsibilities in that territory after the beginning of the truce between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which will come into effect tomorrow.
Our teams are fully prepared to carry out their duties: to alleviate the suffering of our people, return the displaced to their homes and restore basic services such as water, electricity, as well as control border crossings, it stressed.
The Presidency urged the world to increase humanitarian aid to the Strip, which has been under fire for 15 months.
It also called for a political solution based on Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, which was recently confirmed by the United Nations General Assembly.
On repeated occasions, Benjamin Netanyahu's government has refused to allow the presence of the PNA in Gaza after the end of the war, as defended by the international community. (Text and photo: PL)
