Moscow, Jan 23.- Russia's presidential spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, assured that they did not see anything new in the statements of US President Donald Trump, who threatened to impose sanctions if an agreement on Ukraine was not reached.
“We do not see anything new here. You know that during his first term, Trump was the president who most resorted to sanctions methods. He likes these methods, at least he liked them during his first presidency,” recalled the Kremlin spokesman when commenting on the recent statements of the US president on the Ukrainian conflict.
He also added that Moscow closely follows the rhetoric of the White House administration towards Russia and takes note of all the nuances.
However, Peskov assured that they continue to be willing to engage in respectful conversations, such as the one that took place between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump during the latter's first presidential term.
Of course, we closely follow all the rhetoric and all the statements. We carefully take note of all the nuances. We continue to be willing to establish an equitable and respectful dialogue, as President Putin has repeatedly said, the official emphasized.
The day before, the new leader of the United States said that he does not seek to harm Russia and called for an end to the special military operation. However, he threatened that, if there is no agreement on Ukraine, he will impose more taxes, tariffs and sanctions on everything that the Eurasian giant sells to Washington and other countries.
Amid the announcements from the White House, the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Narishkin, told the Sputnik agency on Thursday that the northern nation is losing its hegemony to new influential actors in an increasingly multipolar world.
Little by little, the former hegemony of the United States of America is degrading and losing control, said the leader.
This process, added the head of Russian intelligence, occurs simultaneously with the emergence of new powerful, authoritative actors, who already have great development potential and the ability to guarantee global security and stability.
Narishkin confirmed that we are experiencing the transition from a unipolar world to a new, more equitable order, although it is a complex evolution that entails risks. (Text and photo: PL)
