Moscow, Jan 24. - The risks of a violent clash between nuclear powers are increasing daily in the face of geopolitical rivalry in the international arena, said today the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Serguéi Shoigú.
In the context of growing tensions and the intensification of geopolitical rivalry in the world, the risks of a violent clash with the participation of nuclear powers are increasing," warned the official in exclusive statements to the TASS agency.
According to Shoigú, Western countries unleash an ideological and value aggression" against Russia and Belarus, attacking not only with the help of economic sanctions, but also disrupting the national political situation.
There are incessant attempts to destabilize the internal situation, undermine social bases and impose an alien neoliberal ideology, stressed the former Russian Minister of Defense.
In this regard, he emphasized that such behavior of the West affects not only Moscow and Minsk, but also negatively influences the international situation as a whole.
We are seeing an active devaluation of international structures, which are increasingly becoming political instruments. We are seeing attempts to undermine international efforts to prevent an arms race in space, which could turn space into a zone of military confrontation, he said.
In this regard, he argued that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is actively increasing its military potential on the eastern flank of the bloc, close to the borders of the Russian-Belarusian Union State.
The Atlantic Alliance is constantly lowering the threshold of the use of nuclear weapons and strengthening the nuclear component in military planning, the interlocutor noted.
Likewise, he said that the actions of the United States and its satellites have led to the degradation of arms control and non-proliferation mechanisms for weapons of mass destruction.
It is no secret that the last decades have been marked by a growth and expansion of the range of threats against the Union State and its members, Shoigú noted.
The United States National Security Strategy and the NATO Strategic Concept, updated in 2022, directly describe the need for a global fight against Russia and its allies, perceived as serious security threats, summarized the Secretary of the Security Council of the Eurasian giant, Serguéi Shoigú.
