Havana, Jan. 25. - Eugenio Martínez Enríquez, general director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, through his account on X, said: “I categorically confirm that there is no member of the National Liberation Army of Colombia (ELN, for its acronym in Spanish) or its Central Command in Cuba. The mention of Cuba as one of the countries where they could be is an insinuation without evidence, because there is none.”
Through the platform of that social network, Martínez Enríquez pointed out that all the members of the ELN who traveled to Cuba in the recent past did so with authorizations from the National Government of Colombia through issued safe-conducts. They came to our country with the sole and exclusive purpose of negotiating peace in Colombia, he said.
All the members of the ELN left Cuba months ago, at the conclusion of the Sixth Cycle of the Peace Dialogue Table and the Contact Point requested by the Peace Delegation of the Government of Colombia and the ELN.
The National Government of Colombia knows this perfectly, the representatives of the guarantor countries and the permanent companions of the Colombian Peace Dialogue Table – ELN know it.
At the extraordinary meeting of the Peace Dialogues Table held in the city of Caracas, Venezuela, in May 2024, the ELN offered the attendees proof of what I affirmed, wrote the general director of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
In his X account, the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, referring to this accusation, said that “among the most cynical and perverse maneuvers of the enemies of the Cuban people are the false pretexts they build to accuse Cuba of criminal practices that they will never be able to prove, and to distort facts that history clarifies abundantly.”
They continue clinging to dishonest arguments that are only in their perfidious minds, with which they have not even been able to avoid the international isolation in which the United States finds itself with its aggressive policy towards Cuba, said the president. (Text and Photo: Cubadebate)
