Vientiane, Jan 28. - Cuba's ambassador to Laos, Enna Viant, today thanked this nation for its support in the fight against the escalating U.S. blockade and its unjust inclusion in the spurious list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism.
Thank you Laos for its support and for showing that Cuba is not alone, she stressed the diplomat at an event held in the secondary and pre-university school Friendship Laos-Cuba on the occasion of commemorating the 172nd anniversary of the birth of the National Hero, José Martí.
In her words, Viant also acknowledged the help received five years ago, when on the occasion of the inauguration of that teaching center it was decided to place a bust of Martí in the heroic village of Dong Bang, symbol of the struggle for the independence of Laos.
The Cuban ambassador took the opportunity to refer to the celebration in Havana, from today until 31 January, of the Sixth International Conference "For the balance of the world," which this year has as its central theme "For dialogue among civilizations and for a culture of peace."
We hope that Marti’s legacy will be known to the students of this school and that this date will continue to inspire the search for a better world rooted in the values of peace, justice and friendship, she emphasized.
Finally, she called for the denunciation against the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States and against the unjust inclusion of Cuba on the unilateral list - be an imperishable banner and symbol in the relations of brotherhood and solidarity between two geographically distant countries, but close in the heart.
The event commemorating the 172nd anniversary of the birth of José Martí was attended, among others, by the deputy governor of Vientiane province, Phouvong Vongkhamxao, the vice president of the Association of Friendship Laos-Cuba, Bundith Prathamvong, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Sports and leaders of the Xaithany district.
