Havana, June 10 – Colonel General Bayardo Ramón Rodríguez Ruiz, Chief of the General Staff of the Nicaraguan Army, declared today in this capital that he will work to strengthen ties with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba (FAR, for its acronym in Spanish).
There are unbreakable bonds of brotherhood with the FAR and the people of Cuba, and we hope they continue to strengthen and we can continue learning from our Cuban brothers, he stated in a brief exchange with journalists at the Cacahual Mausoleum.
We feel deeply honored to be here. Coming to Cacahual is a source of pride for us. We will remember this and pass on its importance to the new generations of officers, he stated.
Rodríguez Ruiz also thanked "our brothers in the FAR for the invitation to return to what is our second homeland, where many of us were practically trained."
He also stated that the importance of his visit demonstrates "to the world that we maintain permanent ties of brotherhood and friendship, as our peoples of Cuba and Nicaragua deserve."
The FAR and the Nicaraguan Army are united, working to better prepare ourselves, day by day, to fulfill the sacred purposes of defending the homeland, peace, and the freedom of our peoples, he asserted.
At the monument, Rodríguez Ruiz, along with his accompanying delegation, was received by Army Corps General Roberto Legrá Sotolongo, First Deputy Minister, Chief of the General Staff of the FAR, and other senior officers.
In addition to laying a wreath at the resting place of Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo and his aide Pachito Gómez, Legrá Sotolongo explained to the visitor the events that led to the inauguration of the Cacahual and its symbolism.
After his arrival in Cuba the day before, the Colonel General will fulfill until June 18 a work agenda that includes visits to military units and entities, as well as centers of cultural and historical interest. (Text and photos: PL)
