Cuba, eliminatory tournament of the Caribbean Little Leagues of Baseball U-12 years, Curaçao

La Lisa fell at the start of the Little League baseball tournament

Havana, July 8 – The Havana team La Lisa fell 5-6 to the host club Pariba in their first appearance in the Caribbean Little League Baseball (under 12 years old) eliminatory tournament, held in Curaçao.

Roberto González Bonachea, head of this category in the Cuban Baseball-Softball Federation, explained to JIT that the game went 12 innings. After striking out a batter, the Cuban catcher couldn't catch the ball and then made a foul throw to first base in an attempt to complete the out.

Thus, a runner who was in circulation scored the Pariba run. Kevin Agulla lost.

González Bonachea also reported that the Cuban team had seven hits and committed one error, while their Curaçao rival hit 11, including two home runs, and also mishit once.

This Tuesday, the students of the capital's coach, Yoel Flores, will face the Aruban team. The starting pitcher will be Legnier Govantes.

Eight teams, divided into two groups, will compete in this Caribbean event, seeking the single spot that will be awarded to the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania, United States (August).

In the La Lisa, Pariba and Aruba section, a cast from the Dominican Republic is also enrolled. (Text and photo: JIT)
